Which brings us to the traditional explanation of new species – mutation. It is thought that by some genetic mistake, you get a more complex, better organism that flourishes because it has some advantage.
For example, if expose fruit flies to x-rays you get mutations. Fruit flies are convenient to use since they only live for two weeks allowing experiments with numerous generations. You do get structural changes, but not overall improvements. You can even get multiple wing sets which, at first, seems like a great innovation, but unfortunately, they can’t fly.
Here’s the pattern… although you get mutations, few if any are beneficial. In creation / evolution debates evolutionists are hard pressed to give examples of beneficial mutations.
