Some people are under the impression that scientists have created life in the laboratory. So let’s take a closer look, but first here’s a little basic biology for background.

Atoms of carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen form together into fundamental molecules of life called amino acids shown on the left part of this slide. They are like letters, 20 of them, and they link together to form proteins, by folding into a macro-molecule. Like letters in words, the order in which you link the amino acids determines the shape and function of the protein.
