The claim that life is made in the lab is wild exaggeration.
An often cited experiment to demonstrate the plausibility of life arising from chemicals is the Miller / Urey experiment from 1953. You make a “primitive ocean” and heat it up so it forms an “atmosphere”. Electric sparks (that simulate lightening) make chemical bonds, and by condensing this mixture through a cold trap you can synthesize some amino acids. But this chemical mix of amino acids is trivial compared to life. There is no order or structure.
Does self-replicating life come out of the flask… no.
