Notes:

The rebreather allowed the miner to breath for a few minutes if an emergency occurred in the mine where the air became unbreathable.

The ore is firm and solid at the Sterling Hill mine so cave ins were very rare. The air at Sterling Hill was also of good quality. There are no poisonous or explosive gases and it is free of silica which is sometimes responsible in other mines for the lung disease silicosis.
