The hoistman and crew used a series of bell tones to signal to each other throughout the mine levels to run men and/or equipment to various levels of the mine.
The Adit was 1-1
The 1100 foot level (below the surface) was 3-3-2
The 1850 foot level (bottom) was 5-3
